To Be Or Not To Be (A Role Model).

Excellent article on two gay celebrities. One who just recently came out said he doesn't want to be a role model and one, outed by having pubic sex, was caught again and insists that he is a role model. Isn't there something somewhere in between?

That article gives Lance a lot of credit, insisting that he should be the role model of the two (Granted they did rip him a good one for his comment about not wanting to be a "crazy" activist, which I enjoyed). But I disagree. If you read the article in People magazine, when they asked him what he wants readers to take away from reading the article, he says,

"I want people to take from this that being gay is a norm. That stereotypes are out the window. Being who I am and living my life the last few years and not hiding it, I've met so many people like me that it's really encouraged me. I kind of call them the SAGs--the straight-acting gays. We're just normal, typical guys. I love to watch football and drink beer."

I love his statement right up until the last three sentences. Then he fucks it all up. By saying that, he's implying that everyone else who isn't a "straight-acting gay" is NOT normal--that the rest of the gays (the gay-acting gays), leave something to be desired. So until he's done with his internal homophobia, I don't want him as a role model.

I loved the article about role models. I thought it was funny, really. Made me laugh. Oh, and I don't think Lance is homophobic. Give the guy a break. He's not perfect. I'm sure he realises that there are many colors in the homo-rainbow.

I just thought it was funny that he would consider himself a "straight-acting gay." Please, girlfriend.

I think it's funny too that he calls himself a straight-acting gay when he's hanging out with Kathy Griffin all the time. I know she doesn't watch football and drink beer :)
